Makellon Cooperative (Lead Partner)
This farmers' cooperative strives to deliver top-quality products to consumers seeking healthier, more sustainable options. Its mission is to cultivate a stronger connection between the environment and the consumer by promoting responsible and sustainable agricultural practices. The cooperative is made up of small local farmers who adopted organic farming methods since its inception 30 years ago.
University of Florence
NEUROFARBA department
The University of Florence, founded in 1321, is one of Italy's most prestigious academic institutions, with a strong commitment to high-level research and education. The Neurofarba Department is a leading center for the study of neurosciences, psychology, pharmacology, and child health. Renowned for its high-caliber scientific research, this department particularly specializes in neurobiology, cognitive psychology, clinical neurosciences, and pharmacological sciences. Students have access to advanced training programs, cutting-edge research laboratories, and international collaborations. The Department fosters an interdisciplinary environment that promotes innovation and the training of experts capable of addressing global challenges in health and cognitive sciences.
Valdibella Agricultural Cooperative
Valdibella is an agricultural mutual benefit cooperative, formed by farmers who practice organic cultivation methods as part of a sustainable project: cultivating the land and human relationships while respecting natural and social balances. Collaborating with its farmer members, it adopts sustainable farming methods, utilizing cultivation techniques that protect the natural fertility of the soil and the broader environment. The cultivation of indigenous varieties is prioritized. Their products embody the Sicilian agricultural tradition. Ancient Timilìa wheat is processed into pasta, flour, and baked goods. Almonds are also transformed into milk and cream. From grapes, they produce natural, sulfite-free wines, and from olives, extra virgin olive oil. Honey, legumes, aromatic plants, fresh fruit, and vegetables complete their wide range of offerings.
Montalbano Farm
Located in Camporeale's Marcellarotto district, this farm not only maintains a thriving output of native grape varieties and field crops but also serves as a potent symbol of resistance and the fight against organized crime. Indeed, this very site is where Giuseppe Montalbano, a Camporeale physician, was tragically killed in 1998 for refusing to yield to Mafia abuse. Since then, his children and grandchildren have managed the family farm, keeping his memory alive through various initiatives, including a scholarship dedicated to young students.
Erina Triolo
Farm
This farm, which uses organic farming practices, covers four hectares in Camporeale's Montagnola district. In addition to its 650-tree almond grove, they also produce pomegranates, olives, table grapes, and aromatic herbs. The farm is operated by Erina Triolo and her husband, Rino Greco.
Salvatore Stellino Farm
The farm is committed to sustainable agricultural practices to maximize productivity and reduce environmental impact. It takes a practical approach to farm management and is committed to promoting biodiversity and the development of the agricultural ecosystem. The almond grove spans five hectares, featuring Supernova, Genco, and Tuono varieties.
Massimiliano Solano Farm
Covering thirty hectares, the farm is located in Camporeale's Parrino district. In addition to its almond grove, it produces ancient grains, legumes, olives, pomegranates, and grapes. The farm is currently implementing changes to boost biodiversity, including the establishment of earthen ponds, an edible forest, dry-stone walls, and diverse hedges.
Innovation Broker: Francesco Inghilleri
Graduating in Agricultural Science and Technology, he has been the managing director of Agroservice since 2006. He works as an independent consultant for agri-food businesses, in addition to serving as an innovation broker connecting primary producers, processing industries, and the realm of scientific and technological research.
